Jenny Forsyth has been a Meditation Instructor for 5 years and has many years of meditation practice. She is a secular Buddhist who infuses her meditation classes with Buddhist psychology and philosophy

Course Details

Dates: 6 week course (attend once a week) starting Wednesday August 1st

Length/times: 6.30pm – 7.30pm

Cost: $90 for the 6 week course

Course Outline

This meditation course is for anyone who wishes to learn to meditate or for those who wish to deepen their practice and knowledge of meditation.

Week 1: Exploring “what meditation  is”, through guided body scans, reflection and discussions.

               Students will be given basic instructions on how to meditate and  introduced to the method of watching the breath.

Week 2: Students will be shown a meditation posture and encouraged to experiment with what works best for them.

               Guided meditations will continue to focus on becoming receptive to the bodies sensations and watching the breath.

               The connection between happiness, contentment and meditation will be explored.

Week3: Thoughts will be offered to help the students deepen their understanding of the mind and of the causes of happiness and suffering.

               Students will practise focusing on a candle flame  to help bring their minds home.

Week4:  Guided meditations will focus on listening, as a support to rest in wakeful, open ,awareness.

                Listening to and chanting Mantra will be offered, as another method to transform the energy of the mind.

Week 5: Bringing together the ways, that we’ve been practicing to help the mind settle, will be the focus this week.

                Alternating beween using a method  and simply resting in what is, will also be part of the guided meditations.

Week 6: The focus this week will be on loving kindness practices .

                 Helping students to connect with the goodness inside and learning ways to bring loving kindness to themselves.

                How to integrate what we’ve been learning into everyday life will be a part of each session.

                The above is an outline of the course but may change depending on the expressed needs of the group.
