This meditation course is for anyone who wishes to learn to meditate or for those who wish to deepen their practice and knowledge of meditation.
Week 1 –
We will explore “what meditation is” through experiential guided body scans, reflection and discussions. You will be encouraged to experiment with being fully aware, as you engage in a chosen activity during the week.
Week 2 –
Basic instructions on how to meditate will be given. We will experiment with a meditation posture, so you can discover what works best for you.
Guided meditations will focus on ‘watching the breath” and attending to it’s movement, as a method to collect and calm the mind.
Week 3 –
During the Guided meditations 3 key principles of basic meditation; mindfulness, awareness and spaciousness will be emphasised, as we continue to awaken, by receiving the bodies sensations and watching the breath.
Week 4 –
We will explore the true purpose of meditation and its benefits. We will start to learn what discoveries scientists have made through their investigations.
In the guided meditations, we will practise alternating between “watching the breath” and then dropping that method, to simply rest in what is. You will also be introduced to another method, using a candle flame, to “bring the mind home”
Week 5 –
The expressed needs of the group will guide the meditation course in the next 2 weeks.
We may explore through guided meditations, reflections or discussions; how to use sounds, physical sensations, emotions or thoughts, to support our meditation practice.
Week 6 –
We will continue to explore ways to support our meditation practise and review the main points of the course.
Guided meditations will focus on using the methods the group wishes to practise.
